Turn Baking Into a Speech & Language Activity

As you're baking, naturally model language instead of turning it into a quiz.

Try saying things like:

"Can you pour the flour into the bowl?"

"What ingredient should we add next?"

"Tell me how the banana tastes."

"What do you think will happen when the muffins bake?"

"Can you name all the ingredients?"

These conversations help children develop vocabulary, comprehension, sequencing, and expressive language.

 Practice Sequencing

After the muffins are finished, ask your child to tell the story of how you made them.

Use these sequencing words:

First, we gathered our ingredients.

Next, we mashed the banana.

Then, we mixed everything together.

After that, we filled the muffin cups.

Finally, we baked the muffins and enjoyed them together!
